AVG()

This function returns the average of the values in a group. It ignores null values.

Signature

AVG ( [ ALL | DISTINCT ] expression )
   [ OVER ( [ partition_by_clause ] order_by_clause ) ]

Parameters

expression — An expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category, except for the bit data type. Aggregate functions and subqueries aren't permitted.

Examples

SELECT AVG(amount) AS mean_amount, AVG(quantity) AS mean_quantity FROM dbo.orders;

mean_amount                              mean_quantity
---------------------------------------- -------------
                              141.375000             3
